Caitlyn Yates is a Fellow in the Central America and Mexico Policy Initiative at the Strauss Center for International Security and Law. Caitlyn is currently a co-lead for the CAMPI project on metering that documents asylum processing, wait lists, and conditions for asylum seekers across the U.S-Mexico border.

Currently, Caitlyn is a PhD student in Socio-cultural Anthropology at the University of British Columbia. She is also an affiliate of UBC’s Centre for Migration Studies. Her work focuses on human security, transit migration, organized crime, migrant facilitation and borders in Latin America. Prior to UBC, Yates worked as a researcher at the in the Institute for National Strategic Studies and at IBI Consultants. Caitlyn focuses specifically on Mexico and the Colombia-Panama border in her fieldwork and has presented her work before the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, United States and Mexican government agencies and departments, and at academic conferences. She has lived in Mexico on two occasions where she worked as a research fellow at the Mexican Institute for Competitiveness (IMCO) and studied for a semester at the Center for Research and Economic Teaching (CIDE).

Caitlyn holds a BA in Cultural Anthropology and Political Science from Trinity University and a Master of Global Policy from the LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin.
