ACLED Releases January 2014 Conflict Trends Report

The January 2014 issue of Conflict Trends will first provide an overview of 2013 as captured in Version 4 of the ACLED dataset, before profiling dynamics in North Africa, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Nigeria, Somalia and South Sudan.

In this month’s issue, ACLED discusses increased violent activity of political militias in the Central African Republic; the diversity of rebel groups in DR-Congo; the increased number of clashes between Boko Haram, government forces and vigilante militias in Nigeria; the rising number of conflicts in North African countries experiencing political change as a result of the Arab Spring; the dynamics of Al-Shabaab activity in Somalia; and the increased conflict levels and reported fatalities over the last year in South Sudan.
