Strauss Center Associate Director Presents CCAPS Research in South Africa

On May 27th, Strauss Center Associate Director Ashley Moran traveled to Stellenbosch, South Africa to present CCAPS research at a conference hosted by the U.S. Africa Command, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the National Defense University. The conference entitled the “Dialogue on Climate, Water, Energy and Human Security in Africa” focused on the security implications of environmental change in Africa.

The conference aimed to connect scientists, researchers, and policymakers to develop a climate security management plan for Africa and foster sustained collaboration between the dialogue participants. Moran’s presentation highlighted the CCAPS mapping tools as a mechanism for integrating data and analysis for use by a wide range of government, military, and civic stakeholders. The dialogue that began at the workshop will continue with additional meetings focused on developing a joint action plan on climate security issues in Africa.
