The Robert S. Strauss Center was founded to fulfill the legacy of its namesake, by providing the imagination, leadership and intellectual innovation required to help meet the challenges of the 21st century. It was designed to be a new kind of institution, one that engages the best minds in academia, government and the private sector to develop practical, policy-relevant solutions to the pressing problems of an increasingly globalized world. The Center seeks the widest possible audience, enriching the public debate and giving guidance to decision-makers on how to respond to both the dangers and opportunities in global affairs.

The Strauss Center has grown from a concept and a commitment to a vibrant organization increasingly known for its innovative research, world-class events, interdisciplinary approach, and ability to attract rising stars to its ranks.

The Strauss Center pursues three core missions:

I. Addressing complex global problems through innovative ideas: Today's global challenges are multi-dimensional. The Center drives cutting-edge, policy-relevant research from both inside and outside the academy by bringing together scholars and experts across disciplines.

II. Engaging the world beyond the university: The Strauss Center bridges the gap between UT and the world outside by engaging policymakers, business and civic leaders and journalists. We bring the world to Texas, and Texas to the world.

III. Preparing the next generation of leaders: Throughout his career, Ambassador Strauss has championed new and creative voices. The Strauss Center continues this tradition of mentorship by supporting the work of promising undergraduate and graduate students, and by nurturing and networking the next generation of global leaders.

We are extremely proud of all we have accomplished in just a few short years. But the Center will not rest on its laurels "“ we have an ambitious agenda for the future as well. We welcome your ideas and support as we embark on the next, exciting phase of the Robert S. Strauss Center for International Security and Law!
