2018 Cyber 9/12 Student Challenge

From March 15-18, 2018, the Robert Strauss Center was proud to sponsor four students from the University of Texas at Austin who participated in this year's "Cyber 9/12 Student Challenge," organized by the Atlantic Council in Washington D.C. The Cyber 9/12 Student Challenge is an annual cyber policy competition for students across the globe to compete in developing national security policy recommendations tackling a fictional cyber catastrophe.

Students Nina Guidice (LBJ School), Richelle Ramey (LBJ School), Nate Legum (UT Law), and Zuli Nigeer Yasen (Middle Eastern Studies) had the opportunity to interact with expert mentors and high-level cyber professionals while developing valuable skills in policy analysis and presentation. They competed against teams from across the United States to develop policy recommendations in the face of a fictional serious cybersecurity breach of national and international importance. Teams had to justify their decision-making process, and consider the role and implications for relevant civilian, military, law enforcement, and private sector entities.

This event is not open to the general public.
