Sep 10, 2020 | CAMPI
In a recent op-ed published by The Hill, the project “Migrant Protection Protocols: Implementation and Consequences for Asylum Seekers in Mexico” was cited. This project, led by Stephanie Leutert, Director of the Strauss Center’s Central America & Mexico Policy Initiative, was the result of a year-long research endeavor undertaken by four graduate students at the LBJ School of Public Affairs: Jessica Eller, Emma Israel, Priscilla Lugo, and Juany Torres. This report provides a review of the impact of the Migrant Protection Protocols on individuals requesting asylum in the U.S., and provides policy recommendations—namely, the immediate discontinuation of the Migrant Protection Protocols.
