Introducing a New SSS Video Series & its Inaugural Episode: Space Traffic Management
Sep 18, 2020 | Space Security, Safety, and Sustainability
The Strauss Center’s Space Safety and Security program is pleased to announce the launch of a new video series. These videos will help to explain and clarify the fundamental issues of space policy for a general audience. Future episodes will also include interviews with space policy experts as well as opinion pieces by Strauss-affiliated fellows and scholars.
In this inaugural episode, the Strauss Center’s Brumley Fellow for the SSS program, Alyssa Goessler, provides an overview of space traffic management. In it, she explains the phenomenon which space traffic management responds to—space junk, or orbital debris— and describes the present state of play of orbital debris in lower earth orbit. She also provides policy suggestions for managing the increase of orbital debris, and describes the present and potential future role of the U.S. in this undertaking. Watch the full video here.
