Mosser Discusses the U.S. Withdrawal From Afghanistan

Michael Mosser, Assistant Professor of Instruction in the Department of Government and the Center for European Studies, Assistant Director of the Center for European Studies, and Strauss Center Distinguished Scholar, was recently interviewed by the Texas Standard about the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan. Mosser called the fallout from the withdrawal “disturbing,” noting that the many players in the region and the country’s crucial geostrategic location have set the stage for chaos. Despite the apparent inability of the Afghan government to hold their own against the Taliban, Mosser deems a change in course by the Biden administration to be unlikely, given the negative optics. Mosser noted that the U.S. is not withdrawing from Afghanistan entirely—just “ending its military mission there.” As such, the U.S.’s diplomatic missions will remain. Read the full article here.
