Marianne Richardson is a second-year Masters of Public Affairs candidate at the University of Texas at Austin. She focuses on immigration and migration policy, especially as it affects Central American and indigenous migrants. Marianne holds a Bachelors in International Studies and Spanish from Butler University in Indianapolis, IN. Prior to her graduate studies, she taught chemistry in Peace Corps Mozambique for two years. Her research at the Strauss center involves migration trends, government responses to migration flows, and organized crime. Last summer, Marianne interned in the Indigenous Language Office at the Casa Alitas migrant shelter in Tucson, AZ, where she connected indigenous migrants with community resources and worked on a database tracking migrants’ origins and primary languages. She speaks Spanish, Portuguese, Changana/Tsonga, and K’iche’.
