Idean Salehyan is an Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of North Texas. In addition to being a Strauss Center Fellow, he is also a research associate at the John Goodwin Tower Center for Political Studies at Southern Methodist University. Professor Salehyan was a British Academy Fellow at the University of Essex, and was a visiting scholar at the International Peace Research Institute, Oslo as well as at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zürich. Professor Salehyan received his PhD in Political Science from the University of California, San Diego, where he also received BA degrees in Political Science and Third World Studies.
Professor Salehyan's research has primarily focused on civil and international conflict, transnational security threats, and the political consequences of environmental scarcity. He is the author of Rebels Without Borders: Transnational Insurgencies in World Politics (Cornell University Press, 2009). He has also written numerous scholarly articles in journals such as, the American Journal of Political Science, Civil Wars, International Organization, International Studies Quarterly, the Journal of Conflict Resolution, the Journal of Peace Research, the Journal of Politics, Political Research Quarterly, Regulation & Governance, and World Politics. In addition, he has written policy-oriented reports and articles for the International Peace Academy and Foreign Policy magazine.
