  • BRUMLEY NEXTGEN SENIOR FELLOW

Laura Sigelmann

Laura Sigelmann is entering the third year of her dual-degree Masters program at the LBJ School of Public Affairs and the Jackson School of the Geosciences. Her focus is on international environmental security, climate change, and conflict - she is particularly interested in the ways that the environment and fragile political systems interact. Laura previously worked at the Climate Change Adaptation Unit at United Nations Environment in Nairobi, Kenya and at American Security Project, a national security think tank in DC. In her Brumley Fellowship, Laura worked with Michael Findley on the Center’s Complex Emergencies and Political Stability in Asia program. As part of her research, Laura visited Cambodia in December 2018 to conduct community surveys on climate vulnerability and security risks. She plans to continue this research for her Masters thesis. Upon completion of her program, Laura hopes to pursue a career in environmental security, specifically focusing on climate change and vulnerable states.
