The New York Times gave its approval of the new book, “Impossible Presidency” by Strauss Distinguished Scholar Jeremi Suri

The review is aptly titled, “Do Americans Need a Prime Minister?” Suri’s book, which he presented to a packed room of students and visitors at a recent event co-sponsored by the Strauss Center, traces the history of presidents who defined and changed the role of President of the United States to one which is now too broad and complicated for one person.

The review does note that Suri should also take into account “how some presidents in history have tried to abuse their authority”, but also supports Suri’s overarching call to action for the public to dialogue on institutional reform beyond the politics of personality in the presidency.
