In a night that included legendary names in the world of college football, Texas head coach Mack Brown was honored with The Mack Brown Distinguished Chair for Leadership in Global Affairs at a dinner at the Four Seasons Hotel in Austin on Friday.

A gift from Mrs. Eleanor Crook to the Robert S. Strauss Center for International Security and Law at The University of Texas at Austin will create an endowed chair dedicated to promoting global economic development and fighting poverty.

A dinner honoring The University of Texas at Austin's head football coach, Mack Brown, for his dedication to leadership on and off the field will be held Friday, May 16, at 7 p.m. at the Four Seasons Hotel. 

In an article for the March/April issue of University of Texas magazine The Alcalde, editor Avrel Seale addresses the need for universities to begin applying their resources to solving today's pressing problems, rather than getting caught up in "frivolous scholarship."  Seale cites the Strauss Center as an example that the University is moving in the right direction.

Francis J. Gavin, Director of Studies at the Robert S. Strauss Center for International Security and Law and Tom Slick Professor of International Affairs at the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas in Austin, has been awarded a Nobel Institute Senior Fellowship for the Institute's Spring term 2009.
