Dr. Frank Gavin, the Frank Stanton Chair in Nuclear Security Policy and former Director of the Strauss Center, announced the launch of a new online publication last week: the Texas National Security Review (TNSR).

A partnership with War on the Rocks, which produces podcasts on national security, TNSR delivers “policy-relevant and policy-accessible” dialogue with a sleek and innovative platform. The publication will take advantage of high-caliber speakers and scholars who visit the University of Texas, thanks in part to the Strauss and Clements Centers. TNSR features articles by leaders such as former CIA Director John Brennan, The Honorable Kathleen Hicks, and Senator John McCain.

To breathe new life into the policy debate around national security, TNSR adopts four core principles:

  1. Questions of war and peace are of fundamental importance.
  2. Scholarship on these questions should strive to be rigorous, creative, and cumulative.
  3. The work should confront big questions of great concern to a larger public and be written in a way that is accessible to them.
  4. The current institutional structure for understanding issues of war and peace is not performing as well as it should.

By bringing together outstanding talent, TNSR is poised to meet its aims. The project enjoys support from UT System Chancellor William H. McRaven as well as Strauss Center Director Robert Chesney. You can view the complete list of contributors to Texas National Security Forum here
