James Langdon

Retired Partner, Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP

James C. Langdon, Jr., BBA ‘67, JD ‘70, is a retired partner of the international law firm Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP, where he was a partner for some 45 years and served in a variety of leadership positions.  Prior to joining Akin Gump, Mr. Langdon served in a number of U.S. government roles.  Under President George W. Bush, Langdon served as a member of the President’s Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board, advising the President on the efficiency, priorities, and performance of the U.S. intelligence community.  During his years at Akin Gump, he was widely recognized as an authority on the international energy sector and represented a variety of multinational companies across Europe, South America, Russia, and the Middle East.  Mr. Langdon later was instrumental in founding the Robert Strauss Center for International Security and Law at the University of Texas at Austin.  He serves on the University Development Board and has been active in various advisory positions at Dell Children’s Hospital and other University of Texas bodies.  Mr. Langdon is also a retired member of a number of corporate boards, including most recently the Whittier Trust Company in California.  Mr. Langdon is a recipient of the University of Texas Distinguished Alumnus Award and the Presidential Citation Award.
