Professor Brian Pérez-Daple leads the Strauss Center’s Program on Federal Government and Washington, DC Lawyering. His legal career has included a federal appellate clerkship, private practice in Washington, DC and nine years of civil and criminal enforcement work at the U.S. Department of Justice.
Brian began his career as a law clerk to Judge Roger L. Gregory of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. He then practiced for three years at a Washington, DC litigation boutique. There, his practice focused on white-collar criminal, securities, and complex commercial litigation and included matters involving federal agencies such as the SEC and FDA. He also drafted briefs for the U.S. Supreme Court and several federal courts of appeals.
Brian subsequently served for nine years as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Boston, where he handled criminal investigations and prosecutions, civil enforcement matters, jury trials, and appeals before the First Circuit. He regularly collaborated with Justice Department components in Washington, DC including the National Security Division and components responsible for fraud, appellate litigation, and consumer protection. His cases also involved a wide range of federal law-enforcement and administrative agencies, including the FBI, DEA, Secret Service, Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Postal Inspection Service, FDA, and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. His work ranged from national-security and white-collar investigations to major health care fraud and False Claims Act litigation. He was part of the team that received the Attorney General’s Distinguished Service Award for its work on the government’s $3 billion settlement with GlaxoSmithKline in 2012.
Brian received his undergraduate degree from Princeton University and his law degree from the University of Chicago, where he served as an executive editor of the law review.
