The Rapoport Center for Human Rights and Justice and the Strauss Center sponsored a human rights delegation to Brazil to examine the present situation of Brazil’s quilombo communities and their struggle for land rights. The interdisciplinary student delegation, comprised of students from the School of Law, LBJ School of Public Affairs and Latin American Studies, conducted interviews with quilombo representatives, federal and local officials, non-governmental organizations, activists and academics. The delegation also visited several quilombo communities in Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and Bahia.
