Cyber Clinic Graduate Highlighted in WSJ Piece on AI and Academia

September 17, 2026

Former Texas Cybersecurity student Clinic Deborah Chu was highlighted inWall Street Journal Opinion piece “College Grads vs. the AI Job Apocalypse.” As artificial intelligence reshapes the workplace and threatens to automate many traditional entry-level roles, higher education may need to rethink how it prepares students for their careers.

Chu points to experiential learning opportunities such as the Strauss Center’s Texas Cybersecurity Clinic as a model for preparing students for higher-level work. As AI takes on more technical tasks, she argues, employers will increasingly value people who can weigh competing values, understand the consequences of decisions, manage relationships and make ethically nuanced judgments. “A successful education in the AI age,” Chu writes, will prepare students not simply to compete with AI, but to develop the judgment and character necessary to lead it.
