Richard Widmann

Technology, Security, and Global Affairs Senior Fellow

Rich Widmann is the Global Head of Strategy for Web3 at Google Cloud, where he leads developer initiatives, proprietary blockchain launches, and digital asset integration across Alphabet. He is an Adjunct Professor at The University of Texas School of Law, Northwestern Pritzker School of Law, and the Kellogg School of Management. Rich also serves as an independent board member for OK Group and a nationally chartered bank.

Rich’s background is in law, technology, and education. He holds a J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law, an M.A. from the University of Pennsylvania, and a B.A. from the College of New Jersey. Prior to his transition into the technology sector, Rich practiced law as a litigator focused on regulatory and white-collar matters, including the FIFA World Cup bribery investigations. His experience handling federal regulatory engagements led him to the cryptocurrency space, where he represented founders in the Ethereum ecosystem. Before his legal career, Rich was a middle school English teacher in Philadelphia with Teach for America.
