Beijing Buys a Bigger Seat at the UN Human Rights Table

Rana Siu Inboden, a Strauss Center Senior Fellow, co-authored an article with Anouk Wear in the Jamestown Foundation’s China Brief Notes titled “‘We’re Coming For You’: PRC Influence in UN Rights Bodies.” The article examines how the PRC is placing its nationals on UN human rights bodies and directing funding toward mandates that align with its views.

“Beijing is seeking greater influence in the UN human rights system by expanding the presence of PRC representatives and increasing its funding to parts of the UN human rights regime,” Inboden writes.
