The University of Texas Regional Security Operations Center (UT-RSOC) recently partnered with Texas Cybersecurity Clinic Practicum students to host a mock Texas Risk and Authorization Management Program (TX-RAMP) audit with a regional independent school district, illustrating the Clinic’s strengthening relationship with the UT-RSOC and continued opportunity for Clinic students to gain practical cybersecurity field experience as part of the Clinic’s two course sequence.
The mission of the UT-RSOC, which operates under the UT Austin Information Security Office in partnership with the Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR), is to strengthen cybersecurity across Texas by delivering responsive, intelligence driven services to local, regional, and state entities. Through programs like TX-RAMP, which “provides a standardized approach for security assessment, certification, and continuous monitoring of cloud computing services that process the data of Texas state agencies,” UT-RSOC is able to support proactive alignment between these entities and Texas DIR cybersecurity standards.
Collaboration between the Texas Cybersecurity Clinic and UT-RSOC, through exercises like this mock TX-RAMP audit, is an important component of the Clinic’s mission to provide UT students with hands-on cybersecurity experience via delivering pro bono cybersecurity services to target-rich, resource-challenged entities in Texas.
