Jaganath Sankaran, Assistant Professor at the LBJ School of Public Affairs and faculty affiliate of the Strauss Center and the Asia Policy Program, recently published the article “The Failures of Russian Aerospace Forces in the Russia-Ukraine War and the Future of Air Power” in the Journal of Strategic Studies. Professor Sankaran argues that the Russian Aerospace Forces failed to have a significant advantage over Ukraine’s air defense, severely impacting Russia’s success in the Russia-Ukraine War. He notes that Russian military history and air doctrine, Russian intelligence failures, and Ukrainian resolve and innovativeness are major factors in this failure.
