Webber on the EIA and Pitfalls of Energy Forecasting

June 3, 2015

In a recent article in U.S. News & World Report, Strauss Center Distinguished Scholar and UT Engineering Professor Michael Webber comments on the difficulties inherent in making predictions about the energy market. The article focuses on the Energy Information Administration (EIA), the organization responsible for producing the U.S. Annual Energy Outlook. Webber says the EIA has the “most difficult job in the world” as they are essentially doomed to be wrong given their strict instructions to remain policy neutral.
