Tyler Patton

Cybersecurity Clinic Student

Tyler Patton is a junior at the University of Texas at Austin, majoring in Informatics with a concentration in Human-Centered Data Science. His path into cybersecurity began with independent research into the escalating cyber threats defining our modern world, and has since sharpened into a particular fascination with how attackers exploit human psychology and how nation-states weaponize cyberspace. In his first semester of freshman year, he studied abroad through UT Austin’s Take the World by the Horns Program at Hanyang University in Seoul, South Korea, with a particular focus on society and technology.

What draws Tyler to cybersecurity is its constant evolution and the breadth of adversaries it demands attention to. He’s especially interested in the human and political dimensions of security, and hopes to build a career at that intersection, working on defenses that account for both psychological vulnerability and geopolitical strategy.

Apart from academics, Tyler is also big into soccer, pickleball, scuba diving, cooking, and traveling around the world.
