Cyber Clinic Program Lead Featured in Podcast on Public Service and Cybersecurity

March 26, 2026

Francesca Lockhart, Program Lead of the Strauss Center for International Security and Law’s Texas Cybersecurity Clinic, was recently interviewed by podcast hosts and UT Austin faculty Professor Stephanie Holmsten and Professor Jen Moon in an episode of “The Other Side of Campus” on “Classroom to Cyberspace: Teaching Public Service Through Cybersecurity.” The conversation focused on Professor Lockhart’s background with the Texas Department of Public Safety in intelligence, counterterrorism, and critical infrastructure, and how that expertise lends well to directing the Texas Cybersecurity Clinic. The Texas Cybersecurity Clinic equips students with cybersecurity fundamentals and then pairs them with Texas-area public and private sector organizations to improve the organizations’ cybersecurity defensive posturing.

She was interviewed alongside former Clinic student and current UT Austin law student Kareem Chavez-Escobedo, who reflected on working with Clinic clients as an undergraduate student. The episode tackled what responsibilities higher education institutions have in the face of technological change, the role universities can play to improve their community’s cybersecurity, and how experiential learning can prepare students for real-world problems.
