Ending DOJ’s China Initiative: Foreign Policy & National Security Consequences

April 14, 2022 |  12:00 pm - 1:00 pm  |  TNH 3.124, Law School

On April 14, the Strauss Center and the UT Federalist Society hosted Michael Ellis, Visiting Fellow for Law and Technology at The Heritage Foundation, for a discussion on the Biden Administration’s decision to end DOJ’S China Initiative. The event was moderated by Prof. Adam Klein, Deputy Director of the Strauss Center for International Security and Law.

DOJ launched a “China Initiative” in November 2018 that sought to identify and prosecute trade secret theft, hacking, and economic espionage; protect U.S. critical infrastructure against threats from Chinese foreign direct investment and supply chain compromises; and combat covert efforts to influence the American public and policymakers. In February 2022, the Biden administration announced it would end the initiative. Mr. Ellis will discuss foreign policy and national security consequences of the decision and the benefits of the China Initiative.
