On April 26, Cyber Clinic lead Francesca Lockhart was interviewed by the Texas Standard for a discussion on cyberattacks targeting critical infrastructure in Muleshoe, Texas in January. The hack caused the town’s water system to overflow and is possibly linked to a Russian-based hacktivist organization. Ms. Lockhart contextualized the attack in broader trends that see hacktivist organizations align with nation-states to accomplish similar goals. She also discussed recent developments in federal efforts to counter such attacks, including steps taken by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency to support target-rich, resource-challenged communities, like Muleshoe.
