Dr. Greitens Writes on the Complex U.S. – China Power Dynamic

Dr. Sheena Chestnut Greitens, Asia Policy Program Director at The University of Texas at Austin, recently published an article in Foreign Affairs concerning the ways in which nations across the world leverage security support from both the United States and China to address various security challenges.
“This phenomenon has a simple explanation: Beijing and Washington are offering different products, reflecting their distinctive concepts of security and the types of support each is best suited to provide. The United States shores up external security, protecting its partners militarily against regional threats. China, meanwhile, provides internal security, giving governments the tools to combat social disorder and political opposition,” Greitens writes.
