Joshua Busby on Climate Change and Conflict in the Sahel Region of Africa

Dec 2, 2013 |

In a recent article for The Global Post, CCAPS researcher Joshua Busby spoke with journalists Tristan McConnell and Nick Loomis about the relationship between climate change and conflict in Africa’s Sahel region. Busby cautions against drawing causal links between climate change and conflict, stressing that instability in the Sahel is often the result of structural causes such as economic hardship, secessionist movements and more recently, religious tension caused by the emergence of Al Qaeda in the region.
