Jah Quoted in Article About Data-Pipeline Problem in Space
Jul 21, 2022 | Space Security, Safety, and Sustainability
Dr. Moriba Jah, Associate Professor of Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics at UT Austin and the lead of the Strauss Center’s Space Security, Safety, and Sustainability program, was recently quoted in an article about the Starling Mission by NASA and SpaceX to test strategies for preventing anonymous satellites from crashing into each other.
“Most people don’t recognize that there is a data-pipeline problem in space,” Jah said. “There’s no way to downlink information from satellites to the ground fast enough to do the computations and send commands back to the satellites. There’s not enough time for that given the current infrastructure.”
