Strauss Center Hosts Second Next Gen Texas Assembly

Nov 15, 2012 |

The Strauss Center hosted the second annual Next Generation Project Texas Assembly at the Hyatt Lost Pines Resort November 1st – 3rd.  This year’s gathering focused on Texas and the 2012 election.

Distinguished speakers from around Texas addressed the Fellows throughout the event. Dr. William Inboden of the Strauss Center and LBJ School moderated a candid discussion about the state of Texas politics between Dr. Victoria DeFrancesco Soto, Fellow at the Center for Politics and Governance at the LBJ School, and Mr. George Seay, CEO of Annandale Capital in Dallas.  Mr. Evan Smith, CEO and Editor-in-Chief of The Texas Tribune gave a lively summary of Texas politics, and Mr. Jack Martin of Hill+Knowlton Strategies was the dinner keynote speaker.  Jon and Rebecca Brumley, Admiral Bob R. Inman, and Sherri Greenberg, Director of the Center for Politics and Governance, were in attendance.

Like last year’s Assembly, the Fellows were divided into two small groups to discuss a series of questions posed to them before the event.  On Saturday, November 3rd, the Fellows gathered to talk about their findings and to come to a consensus on the key issues.  The main point of agreement was that education in Texas needs improvement, and lawmakers must come together in the next legislative session to address this pressing issue.
