Marcelo Pinheiro

Industry Expert, Applied Cybersecurity Community Clinic |

Marcelo has 20+ years working with cutting-edge technology in multiple industries and different countries. His passion for Cybersecurity started during his Computer Science student days testing some tools in the lab and seeing the impact that it caused. When he suffered his first (of many) DDoS attack in 2001 when he was the IT manager of a Wireless Service Provider, his curiosity exploded in diving deeper into the cyber world. He had explored multiple paths within security – enterprise, wireless, but network security has always been his main one. In 2005, he was a member of the HTCIA (High Technology Crime Investigation Association) Brasilia Chapter, and from 2002-2015, Marcelo lectured OS/Network security in multiple Universities in Brazil for undergrad/grad courses.

Currently, Marcelo is working at Google Cloud as a Staff Solutions Engineer designing and building planet-scale solutions for key select customers. At Google Cloud, he is also a mentor for the Security Champions program and an extended member of Google Cybersecurity Action Team (GCAT). Prior to that, Marcelo had different roles from IC to leadership positions. During 9 years at Intel Corp (LATAM and US), he led multiple engineering projects and the latest ones were Secure Core Server, total memory encryption for multi-tenant workloads, new crypto provider using crypto ISA, and edge to cloud confidential computing reference architecture. In Latin America, he worked in the Education, Automotive, Customer Service, and Service Providers sectors, and as an ad-hoc Security/Networking consultant. Marcelo holds a PhD in Computer Science from Federal University of Bahia (UFBA), and many industry certifications. Research interests include: applied cybersecurity, SecOps, automation and innovation through technology interception.
