Strauss Center Distinguished Scholar and UT Law Professor Derek Jinks recently gave a talk on the War on the Rocks podcast regarding the development of Humanitarian Law from World War II to the current conflict in Ukraine. War on the Rocks is a podcast by the Texas National Security Review, which is co-sponsored by the Strauss and Clements Center.

Jinks emphasized that the study of humanitarian law is more relevant than ever before and that it is a field that is evolving at a rapid pace. The war in Ukraine breaks all preexisting norms established during the UN Charter, and Geneva Convention, among others as it challenges venues of enforcement. This exciting talk was finalized by remarks from LBJ students with various levels of expertise in military affairs and the practice of law in which they commented on their own experiences with the Laws of War during the Afghanistan and Iraq Wars.
